reading notes: week 2 anthology

I have always loved fairy tales, growing up I watched endless princess movies. I like in this story how it starts out with the mom talking to her 3 young daughters. 2 of them see very greedy and demanding their mother to bring all sorts of things back from the market, but then the 1, Mary only asks for 3 roses. My first thought with the specific request of 3 roses was that Mary wanted to give them to her 2 sisters and her mom, but that was never addressed. She was polite unlike her demanding sisters which I think she was rewarded by marrying the basilisk-turned-human. I also think the basilisk is used to getting whatever it wants, obviously being a scary monster, but at first Mary refuses to chop off its head and she only does when he threatens to harm her. I think for retelling purposes I'll want to tweak it, add more personalities to the 2 other demanding sisters and see if I could work out a way to switch the story to an animals perspective.
idea 1 (demanding sisters):
- twins?
- annoying, matching names
- push, bully Mary and make fun of her for being inferior to them (twin thing?)
idea 2 (animal POV)
- an owner of 3 puppies goes to the pet store and asks what they want, 2 puppies are greedy, and the (mary) asks for 3 squeaky balls
- mom forgets the squeaky balls and walks past a doghouse that is covered in squeaky balls out front, basilisk turns into handsome golden retriever
